police officer pulling over driver and looking at license

Troopers with the Colorado State Patrol (CSP), backed by police officers from 100 local law enforcement agencies in Colorado, will be out in force over the next three days as part of the stepped up DUI enforcement efforts planned for the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

Starting tonight and running through Tuesday, May 31st, the Memorial Day DUI crackdown in Colorado will reportedly involve saturation patrols and various DUI checkpoints in an effort to deter drunk driving – and arrest those suspected of driving while impaired, according to officials at the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT).

Elaborating on officials’ intent to nab impaired motorists this weekend, CSP Chief Col. Scott Hernandez has explained that:

Law enforcement understands that people will be out having fun during the holiday weekend, but there will be zero tolerance for impaired drivers… We encourage drivers to consider the consequences of a DUI and the danger they present to themselves and others on the road.

The Executive Director of MADD in Colorado, Fran Lanzer, has also made a public plea to try to deter drunk driving this weekend:

If you’re celebrating with alcohol this Memorial Day weekend, please plan ahead for a safe way home… If not, you might end up meeting one of these officers because they will be out to keep our roads safe this weekend.
