What About An Amicable Divorce?

In decades past, a divorce was looked upon as damaging, destructive, and selfish. Divorces were usually expected to be contentious, involving extensive court proceedings. The idea of an amicable divorce has historically been laughable. However, in this era of “wokeness”, it follows that the climate around divorce is changing.

As this recent CNN article says, many people come to the end of a marriage simply because they have grown and changed and are ready for a new chapter in their life. There may be no bitterness or fighting, but rather a desire to move forward with an amicable divorce. In this situation, a couple can seek out many professionals who offer collaborative or mediated divorce services.

The Wrong Amicable Divorce Services

A lot of collaborative services for amicable divorces are offered by attorneys, mediators, and even financial professionals.A divorcing couple might not know that these professionals aren’t typically focused on helping you achieve your personal goals. The goal of these professionals is to reach a resolution, since they are not aligned with either party.

Rather than advocating for a client’s best interests, in order to achieve an amicable divorce, many of these services are aimed at reaching any resolution. They focus on the best interests of the divorce, the agreement, or the collective “whole”.
