Defense Attorney Can Be An Unpopular Job

When the police show up at the front door, or when they call and accuse you of a crime, you immediately want to call a good defense lawyer. However, if that hasn’t happened personally, people can be very judgmental about criminal defense attorneys.

Sixth Amendment and Defense Attorneys

People who are not involved in the court system often ask defense attorneys ‘how can you do that job?’ This article from The Hill highlights many people’s reactions to criminal defense lawyers. Often, as was the case in Derek Chauvin’s trial, everyone has an opinion about the outcome, but not many stop to think about the importance of the process.

Right To Trial

In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defence.

Sixth Amendment

Whether or not the public thinks a defendant is obviously guilty, the accused still has a right to an impartial trial under our constitution. Can you imagine what it would be like if you were wrongly accused and nobody came to your aid? It is a defense lawyer’s goal to make sure this doesn’t happen.

Defense Attorney Roles

As criminal defense lawyers at Datz Law Firm, sometimes we fight against false allegations. We might also be helping people come to terms with their own actions and decisions. Seeking justice is an imperfect art, but we believe that everyone deserves to have someone in their corner when they have to make tough decisions.

We always give our clients honest advice.

We often have to tell them difficult things and confront them with hard realities. Sometimes we have to help them compromise to protect themselves and their families. We’re here for our clients, and to honor the sixth amendment.

Whether is is representing people accused of crimes, seeking or defending protection orders, or helping people through divorce and custody proceedings … we have chosen to walk alongside people during the most difficult moments of their lives.

At the Datz Law Firm, we have chosen to walk alongside people during the most difficult moments of their lives.

The judicial system is foreign to most people and often confusing. People are scared and anxious and often tempted to make bad decisions just to get it over with. People often fear trial, and think they would rather take a plea deal than fight for their right to a fair trial.

We provide space to take a breath, seek some perspective, and consider all options. We will argue hard on your behalf – but we also give it to you straight. Our goal is to help you get through this process the best way for you … and to find a better, healthier, brighter future.
